Sofia Film Set Shots

We spent a month in Nu Boyana Studios in Sofia, Bulgaria. My husband was first AD on a film set in 1920s New York City. It was such a surreal experience seeing the actors and props wander past while having our morning coffee.

  1. My childen and I used to regularly see movies shot in Sofia when we lived there, though we never actually went onto the Nu Boyana lots. Once my young son and I were walking by the National Theatre and saw rows of 1950s New York City taxis lined up by the park. It was definitely a surreal experience. For which movie was your husband the first AD?

    1. Hi Risa, how cool is that? 1950s taxis- wow. It was for an Italian film ‘Valentino,’ though it was shot at the same time as ‘300’ the sequel. Which meant a lot of sweaty and barely dressed warriors at 3 p.m. daily. Ha. Sofia is such a place of juxtapositions.
